Diversity, Equity, Inclusion

Henry Ford Health believes “diversity, equity, and inclusion are woven into the fabric of everything we do.”

On its website, Henry Ford Health proudly states: “Diversity always will be the foundation on which Henry Ford Health stands.”
In 2023, Henry Ford Health donated to the Michigan Round table and the Michigan Minority Council for Diversity and Inclusion programming.
Henry Ford Health’s Supplier Diversity Program supports "diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice” through commitments to supplier diversity by prioritizing businesses that are at least 51% owned by LGBTQ+ persons or minorities as defined by Henry Ford Health.
Henry Ford Health utilizes “Unconscious Bias training,” health care equity, and other DEI trainings for health system leaders. The health system also hosts several Employee Resource Groups, including groups for African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, Middle Easterners, and LGBTQ+ individuals.
The Henry Ford Physician Network, a group of healthcare providers believe that Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice is a “requirement” for patient care, stating: “It is an expectation, both within the HFPN administration/leadership and with all of its physician members, that we always demonstrate diverse and equitable practices, take steps to identify implicit biases in our professional and personal interactions and apply swift action to address them with an eye on justice using education, reflection and understanding.”
Kimberlydawn Wisdom, Senior Vice President of Community Health & Equity and Chief Wellness & Diversity Officer at Henry Ford Health, believes “Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are simply not enough. Diversity, equity, and inclusion alone can only mitigate the damage of the past. To prevent the mistakes of the past from burdening our communities in the future, our ultimate destination must be justice.”
In 2023, Kimberlydawn Wisdom participated in a workshop “Moving into the Community to Advance and Accelerate DEI and Justice,” where she discussed Henry Ford Health’s immersive health care equity program, and that health equity needs to be integrated into everyday business.
Henry Ford Health created a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) strategic plan with four pillars: “Anti-Racism and Social Justice Advocacy,” “Diverse Workforce and Inclusive Culture,” “Community Empowerment,” and “Healthcare Equity” aimed to “dismantle and unplan inequities and pursue justice.”
